Message from the Chair

The start of a new year is an opportunity for us to reinforce our message of hope. 2020 was a difficult year in so many ways and we saw a significant increase in demand for our services. We know how challenging it is to support and care for a loved one who is suffering from an eating disorder but as 2021 starts, we’d like to remind you that recovery is always possible, at any stage and at any age. Remember there is always hope.

Our team of volunteers is available throughout the holiday season. And we continue to run our regular Zoom meetings – you are always welcome to join us.

Wishing you, your families and those you care for all the very best for the year ahead.

When you know better you do better

When you know better, you do better

Simple and true. Every parent with a new, or even not-so-new diagnosis of an eating disorder for their child needs to hear this.

Treating suicidality in eating disorders: How DBT skills help families navigate suicide and self-injury

Over the past decade, researchers have been evaluating the use of DBT either as a supplement to FBT or as a stand-alone treatment for complex eating disorders marked by suicide and self-injury. Read about the five key elements to DBT.

When your child with an eating disorder is sick...

When parents are renourishing a child with an eating disorder and that child gets sick, parents often don’t know what to do. Some families may back off on feeding every time a child gets any illness, which can be a risky practice. Dr Jennifer Johnson's advice will help you stay proactive if you are faced with an unwell child.

Please consider donating to EDANZ

We acknowledge times are financially tight for many, but at this time there is also a corresponding increase in demand for our services. As a volunteer organisation relying totally on donations and grants to provide our services – many of which are currently self-funded – your financial support is more needed now than ever before.

Your donation will enable us to continue our work providing support to families, education to healthcare providers and the community, and advocating for improved access to evidence-based treatment for all affected New Zealanders.
